PULLMAN, Wash. – Faculty member Barry Moore recently won national recognition for three decades of work on lake, stream and reservoir restoration and for reviving fish habitats, reducing internal pollution loads and revitalizing lakes low in oxygen.
Moore is an associate professor in the School of the Environment at Washington State University.
The National Association of Underwater Instructors Environmental Enrichment Award recognizes efforts that protect, improve or inspire others to conserve the aquatic environment or the Earth’s water cycle.
Moore’s most recent research documented movement of algae toxins originating in freshwater lakes into Puget Sound shellfish. These toxins pose significant potential risks to human and wildlife populations.
The work underscores the importance that protecting freshwater resources plays in caring for marine environments.
