MicheleAcker-Hocevar-webRICHLAND, Wash. – Michele Acker-Hocevar, Washington State University Tri-Cities vice chancellor for academic affairs, will be presented with a national award this month recognizing prolonged, exceptional service as co-editor of the Journal for Research on Leadership Education.

The University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) instituted the Distinguished Service Award to recognize extraordinary commitment, excellence, leadership, productivity, generosity and service to the organization. Acker-Hocevar will receive the award during the annual convention Nov. 21 in San Diego.

UCEA awarded co-editorship to Acker-Hocevar and Gail Furman in 2011 to transition the organization’s journal to an online format and bring it to national prominence. Since then, the journal has seen increases in the quality and number of submissions from leading minds in educational leadership across the country.

A letter from UCEA executive director Michelle Young said Acker-Hocevar went “beyond the call of duty for several years” as co-editor.

“My involvement in this magazine provided me the opportunity to not only give back to the field of educational leadership, but also to work with others, including those up and coming in the field,” Acker-Hocevar said.
