concert-choir-smallPULLMAN, Wash. – A new pops concert will join the 30-year-old Vocal Extravaganza as Washington State University music students serenade their families and the public in two Dad’s Weekend performances.

Broadway and film favorites, patriotic marches, songs and solo performances will highlight the first Dad’s Weekend “Pops” Concert by the WSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, in Bryan Hall.

Tickets cost $10 dollars at the door. Proceeds will go to the purchase of new chairs and stands for School of Music festivals and camps.

The Vocal Extravaganza showcase of the five WSU choral ensembles will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in Bryan Hall.

Tickets will be available 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 4-6 in the lobby of Kimbrough Hall and in Bryan Hall beginning at 6 p.m. on the night of the performance. They cost $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students with ID and free for children 12 and under. Proceeds benefit the student ensembles for music, performances/productions and tours.

The Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers will hold a bake sale and raffle during intermission to help fund their spring tour in South Korea.

The Vocal Extravaganza will include:

* The Madrigal/Chamber Singers performing English Renaissance madrigals and contemporary selections.

* The University Singers presenting three selections on the theme of “song.”

* The Concert Choir performing music connected by the theme “I Sing Because…”

* Opera Workshop presenting portions of a program of love scenes, “Viva La France,” which will be fully presented at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in Bryan Hall.

* WSU VoJazz performing four selections of bebop, ballad and swing.
