PULLMAN, Wash. – The premiere of a faculty composition and a variety of faculty arrangements will highlight a concert by Jazz Northwest at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, in Kimbrough Hall at Washington State University, part of the Faculty Artist Series that benefits student scholarships.
WSU students with ID are admitted free. General admission costs $10, or $5 for seniors 60+ and non-WSU students. Tickets are available in the lobby 30 minutes before the concert.
Directed by Frederick “Dave” Snider, Jazz Northwest will play compositions from the CTI Records (Creed Taylor Incorporated) catalog, founded in 1967 by producer/A&R manager Creed Taylor. Included will be faculty arrangements of Stanley Clarke’s “Bass Folk Song,” Stanley Turrentine’s “Sugar,” Joe Farrell’s “Sound Down,” Eumir Deodato’s “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” Chick Corea/Neville Potter’s “Time’s Lie” and Freddie Hubbard’s “Red Clay” and “Little Sunflower.”
A new composition, “Freddie,” by WSU School of Music director Gregory Yasinitsky, based on Hubbard’s “Intrepid Fox,” will be premiered.
Featured soloists will be: Snider, string bass and electric bass; Yasinitsky, saxophones; David Turnbull, trumpet; David Jarvis, drums; David Hagelganz, tenor saxophone; Brian Ward, piano; and Bradley Ard, guitars.
