PULLMAN, Wash. – The Honors College at Washington State University is accepting applications and nominations for its inaugural cohort of faculty fellows.
“There are many faculty members at the university who make significant contributions to the mission of the Honors College and deeply impact our students,” said M. Grant Norton, college dean. “We are pleased to launch this new program to recognize them in a continuing and public fashion.”

Criteria based on contributions
Applicants will be evaluated on their past, current and proposed contributions to the Honors College and its students, who are challenged to think critically and participate in the global community.
These contributions might include teaching in the honors curriculum; developing and leading study- and research-abroad programs; mentoring honors students in research and creative projects; providing internships and community service opportunities; serving in an advisory role, such as on the Honors Council; and being a campus ambassador for the college.
Tenured and tenure-track faculty, clinical track faculty and instructors with WSU appointments are eligible. Terms will run for three years but can be renewed. Fellows can apply to the college for funding to support enhancement activities, such as developing a new faculty-led program or attending workshops and conferences.
Rolling application/nomination period
Applications from interested faculty and nominations by deans, directors and chairs will be accepted any time during the academic year, Norton said. Faculty who are nominated will be encouraged to submit an application.
Details about requirements and applications are available on the Honors College website. In general, they include an updated vita, statements about contributions to the college and a recommendation. Materials must be sent to Honors Associate Dean Catherine Elstad at elstad@wsu.edu; she will notify applicants when their packets are complete. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
The Honors Council will review and evaluate applications and nominations and the dean will make final selections. Announcements will be communicated to the applicant by the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President.
Honors distinguished professors to be fellows
Professors holding the college’s first titled positions – Honors Distinguished Faculty – will complete their two-year appointments and then automatically become Honors Faculty Fellows for three years. The terms of the first to hold the title – Monica Johnson and Ray Quock – will end in spring 2016. Applications for the next distinguished faculty will open late in 2015.
