Nov. 17-18: WSU Fruit School on apple, pear horticulture

fruitWENATCHEE, Wash. – The latest research on apple and pear crop responses to environmental stress and manipulation will be presented at the Washington State University Fruit School Nov. 17-18 at the Confluence and Technology Center in Wenatchee.

The event will be simulcast to Richland and Yakima, Wash., and Hood River, Ore. Simultaneous English-to-Spanish translation will be offered at Washington locations.

Five sessions will cover a variety of topics: basic pome fruit physiology; nutrient and water relations; the manipulation of tree growth; the physiology of stress on trees; and fruit quality.

Fruit industry attendees will hear from scientists from WSU, Oregon State University, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, France and Italy, as well as from other industry leaders.

“This combination of local and international presenters from universities and private industry will focus the meeting on putting science into practice,” said WSU Extension specialist and event co-organizer Gwen Hoheisel.
