Sept. 29: Students, public learn about living with ALS

Potter-80SPOKANE, Wash. – Asking people with ALS to recline during a dental or physical exam may stop their breathing. This and other information about living with the fatal disease will be presented at the free, annual ALS forum at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the Academic Center, Room 20, at Washington State University Spokane.

“There is much to learn about this devastating illness from those who bravely share their stories,” said Nancy Potter, WSU associate professor of speech and hearing sciences, about the panel of ALS patients and their families. “The stories they tell, the perspectives they bring are extremely valuable to our students who are future practitioners.”

ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The forum is presented by the WSU Department of Speech and Hearing and Eastern Washington University Communication Disorders.
