Sept. 18: Free recital features clarinet, piano

Joseph-Brooks-webPULLMAN, Wash. – A free, public clarinet recital by Central Washington University professor Joseph Brooks will be at 4:10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Bryan Hall, Washington State University. He will be accompanied on piano by Yakima Valley Community College instructor Anne Schilperoort.

The program will include “Syllogism–Evolution of a Virtuoso” by Brooks, “Fantaisie-caprice” by Charles Lefebvre, “Sonata in A flat, Op. 49, No. 1” by Max Reger and “Daley’s Arc” by Arne Running.

During a career of nearly 40 years, Brooks has held principal chairs and has been a featured soloist on the clarinet, oboe and saxophone. He is an active classical and jazz artist. He performs regularly with the Central Wind Quintet and the Joe Brooks Quartet.

Schilperoort has performed, adjudicated and presented master classes throughout Canada and the Pacific Northwest. In Yakima she teaches privately, is principal keyboardist with the Yakima Symphony Orchestra and accompanies its chorus.
