Forest stewardship class includes wildfire mitigation

forest-250LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. – Minimizing wildfire risk is among the management skills that will be taught in the hands-on Forest Stewardship Coached Planning course to be held 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 16-Nov. 4, at the Liberty Lake Public Library, 23123 E. Mission Ave., Liberty Lake, Wash.

forest-stewardshipThe class is relevant for anyone who wants to be a proactive steward of land holdings from five to thousands of acres.

The Pacific Northwest is a fire-driven ecosystem; class participants will learn to successfully minimize the risks from fire that could transform their forest into something unrecognizable. Students will learn hands-on techniques to reduce risk to their forest stands and create defensible space around dwellings and outbuildings.

In addition, the class will aid other forest goals, such as wildlife management, privacy and timber volume. Topics will include soils, wildlife, ecology, trespass, taxes and more.
