College of Pharmacy names mentor as Alumna of the Year

Alzola-webSPOKANE, Wash. – Pharmacist Merrie Kay Alzola, of Washougal, Wash., has been named the 2014 Outstanding Alumna of the Year by the Washington State University College of Pharmacy.

She helped establish the college’s alumni and student mentor program where she coaches future pharmacists. Her efforts contributed to recruiting enough volunteers to assign a mentor to every incoming student in the program’s inaugural year.

Alzola earned her pharmacy degree from WSU in 1993. She recently joined Novo Nordisk as a senior health system account manager in the Portland, Ore., area. She provides providing educational tools and resource materials to health system leaders to create better management and outcomes for patients with diabetes.
