Carson College of Business recognizes faculty, staff, students

Tang,-left,-and-StewartPULLMAN, Wash. – The Carson College of Business recently honored its outstanding faculty, staff and graduate students during an annual awards event at Washington State University Pullman.

PerkinsMBA Professor of the Year: Andrew Perkins (’95, ’98), Department of Marketing and International Business, consistently receives excellent evaluation scores for innovative and enthusiastic teaching. He advised the first WSU student team to be invited to compete in the prestigious business plan competition at Rice University.

WittOutstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award: Phillip Witt, Department of Finance and Management Science, is known for well-organized teaching that incorporates interesting, real-life examples. He is approachable and deeply interested in students.

 

WeberOutstanding Graduate Student Research Award: TJ Weber, Department of Marketing and International Business, Ph.D. student, co-authored an article accepted for publication in the Journal of Advertising and two conference papers accepted by the AMA Public Policy Conference and the Academy of Marketing Science.

Swanger-MOutstanding Staff Service Award: Mitch Swanger, recruitment and admissions manager for graduate programs, develops processes to help graduate program staff members be more efficient and independent. He leads collaboration with the admissions team and actively works to recruit new graduate students.

MunsonOutstanding Faculty Teaching Award: Charles Munson, Department of Finance and Management Science, makes every day a hands-on learning opportunity, gets to know students and prepares them to start their own businesses. Students describe him as rigorous, inspired, and humorous—“the best teacher at WSU.” He chairs the WSU Teaching Academy, has taught 15 core and elective courses at all degree levels, and supervises five doctoral students.

JoiremanOutstanding Faculty Service Award: Jeff Joireman, Department of Marketing and International Business, consistently supports the college beyond teaching and research duties. In the last year, he has served on the journal task force and is a member of the doctoral program and policy committee and the Carson College strategic planning committee. He also agreed to take on a marketing course when another instructor left the university.

PimentalOutstanding Clinical or Non-Tenure Track Faculty Award: Ron Pimental, professional sales program in the Department of Marketing and International Business at Vancouver, brings energy and rigor mixed with fun to his classes. He teaches students the value of networking and becoming part of the business community. He spends hours coaching students to compete in professional sales competitions, where they typically are semifinalists or champions.

Tang,-left,-and-StewartSchool of Hospitality Business Management Academic Awards: Anh Tang, outstanding academic award; Kate Stewart, outstanding senior award. Tang was recognized for having the highest GPA in the school and college. Stewart was recognized for leadership, involvement in school activities, industry experience and potential to be a future representative for the program.
