Pharmacy Manager Christopher L. Greer of Spokane was one of eight pharmacy preceptors nationally to receive the Master Preceptor Recognition from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy this year.
Preceptors supervise student pharmacists in clinical settings, where students gain experience in pharmacy practice with real patients. Preceptors can play a critical role in shaping a student’s future career.
Greer was selected as an AACP Master Preceptor for his commitment to creating a learning environment where each student pharmacist receives the appropriate level of teaching, coaching and mentorship to enhance and solidify their knowledge, skills and abilities during the learning experience in preparation for entering the profession of pharmacy.
Greer was honored during an awards luncheon on Wednesday, May 6, as part of the college’s 2015 Commencement Ceremony festivities in Spokane. Along with the certificate of recognition Greer will receive a $500 honorarium and complimentary AACP membership.
He was nominated by his colleagues at the Washington State University College of Pharmacy for his humility, genuine care for people, integrity, passion for pharmacy, and servant leadership. The nomination included letters from WSU student pharmacists, the College of Pharmacy faculty and staff, and the chief nurse executive at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute where Greer works.
Greer received his pharmacy degree from WSU. After graduation he completed a pharmacy residency specializing in adverse drug reactions. He spent three years as a staff pharmacist in Olympia, Washington, before returning to Spokane. He has been with St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute since 1995, working his way up to pharmacy manger in 2009.
In addition to managing pharmacy for the rehab center at St. Luke’s, Greer is the president for the Spokane Pharmacy Association.
Greer has been a preceptor for student pharmacists at WSU since 2003. He supervises fourth-year student pharmacists in acute care and institutional pharmacy rotations, second-year
