YAKIMA, Wash. – An Ellensburg woman was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Washington State Main Street Program for her persistence in opening a clothing store in a renovated building downtown.
The annual awards are given to Main Street communities, organizations and individuals who contribute to economic vitality through downtown revitalization and preservation.
After a year of building her business plan for Claim Clothing, Megan West, 22, began to seek funding but was denied by banks because of her age. She eventually teamed up with a business adviser at the Washington Small Business Development Center.
The Washington SBDC (http://wsbdc.org) provides no-cost, one-to-one advising for small business owners who want to start or grow their businesses. The Washington SBDC is supported by Washington State University, the SBA and other institutions of higher education and economic development.
