April 7: Nobel scientist discusses career, immunity research

beutler-brucePULLMAN, Wash. – Nobel Prize winner Bruce Beutler will talk about his journey as a scientist and his research on the immune system at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, in the CUB ballroom.

Beutler discovered an important family of receptors that allow mammals to sense infections when they occur, triggering a powerful inflammatory response. For this work he received the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

The lecture is hosted by the Immunology & Infectious Diseases Graduate Student Association at the College of Veterinary Medicine.
