PULLMAN, Wash. – The case study for the annual Global Case Competition at Washington State University was revealed to a record number of participants Monday. This year’s challenge centers on plastic waste in Manaus, Brazil.
Proposals are due March 9 from the more than 120 applicants, who are grouped in teams of 4-6. Five finalist teams will be selected by March 30 to compete on April 10. The winning team will earn the opportunity to travel to Brazil.
Each team will develop an approach to the case that addresses political, socio-cultural, scientific, economic and educational concerns throughout the lifecycle of plastic materials. Solutions must represent the multidisciplinary knowledge of a team, be implementable within five years, utilize existing institutions in Brazil and reflect regional resources, including WSU.
Each team includes at least one international student, one student from a branch campus and a faculty advisor. In addition, undergraduate and graduate students and multiple majors are represented on each team.
