WSU Regents approve Multicultural Center design, financing

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University Board of Regents this afternoon approved the design and financing for a new Multicultural Center on the Pullman campus.

The board had deferred the decision at its regular meeting Jan. 30. Board Chair Michael Worthy called a special meeting to address the issue today.

WSU President Elson S. Floyd explained that because financing for the center was part of a three-project bond package it was imperative that the board consider and take action before its next regularly scheduled meeting in March. The other two projects in the package are relocation of the WSU Police Department and a new Digital Classroom building, both of which already have been approved by the board. Debt service on all three projects is expected to total approximately $4.8 million per year.

The Multicultural Center is designed to provide a central home for a broad range of services and organizations for multicultural students and a diversity hub for the entire student body.
