PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University Festival of Contemporary Art Music, Feb. 5-7, will feature guest composer Diane Thome. The annual festival is one of WSU’s signature events.

Festival concerts, all free to the public, include:
Thursday, Feb. 5
Student Composers Concert, 11 a.m., Kimbrough Concert Hall, featuring new music written by music students Alberto Ferro, Lindsay Greene, Austin Matthews, Zachary Meier and Ka Yat Ngai and performed by faculty and students.
Faculty Composers Concert, 8 p.m., Bryan Hall, with works by Scott Blasco, Ryan Hare, Brad Ard and Greg Yasinitsky.
Friday, Feb. 6
Electroacoustic Music Concert, 3 p.m., Kimbrough Concert Hall, with: synthesizer pioneer Laurie Spiegel’s “Three Sonic Spaces,” short movements of contrasting synthesized textures; WSU faculty Dave Jarvis’ “The Raven” and Missouri composer Andrew Seager Cole’s “Sanctuary to Sea,” which explore the performance space through an array of speakers surrounding the audience; WSU faculty Scott Blasco’s “Plank to Plank,” a setting of an Emily Dickinson poem that will feature WSU voice professor Brian Carter and percussionist Roland Ramirez interacting with live electronic sound; and an improvisation for piano and computer featuring Blasco and WSU graduate student Alberto Ferro.
Saturday, Feb. 7
Guest Composer’s Concert, 8 p.m., Bryan Hall, featuring the works of Diane Thome, who is the first woman to receive a Ph.D. in music from Princeton University and a past winner of the Washington Composer of the Year.
