PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University will start tracking waste weights for RecycleMania 2015 on Sunday, Feb. 1. A new aspect of the annual challenge will encourage students and employees to earn points by sharing progress on social media.
RecycleMania is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction to their campus communities. Over an 8-week period each spring, schools across the United States and Canada report the amount of recycling and trash collected and are ranked in various categories.
Schools can follow their performance compared to peers and use the results to rally their campus to reduce and recycle more. Learn more at http://recyclemaniacs.org/.
A new, tandem competition, the 3R Actions Challenge, will be facilitated by Taylor Harrison, chair of the Associated Students of WSU Environmental Sustainability Alliance.
Each time a student or employee texts, tweets or uses a special app to share how they have recycled, composted, reused or reduced waste, they will give WSU a bump in recycling spirit rankings.
