WSU Board of Regents to meet at WSU Vancouver this week

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Board of Regents of Washington State University will hold a regularly scheduled meeting Jan. 29 and 30 at the WSU Vancouver Firstenburg Student Commons Building, Rooms 101-103, to consider action items, including approvals of the WSU Spokane Campus Master Plan, the schematic design of a WSU North Puget Sound Academic Center, and the financing, design and construction of a Multicultural Center at WSU Pullman.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m., Jan. 29, with a special meeting of the trustees/shareholders of the Student Book Corp., to be followed by consecutive meetings of the Regents’ Finance and Audit, Academic and Student Affairs, and External Affairs committees. Each committee session will convene immediately following the completion of the previous session. All sessions are scheduled to conclude prior to 4:15 p.m.

The Regents will re-convene at the same location at 8 a.m. Friday to initially hear reports, including reports from the WSU Foundation, the WSU Faculty Senate, Associated Students of WSU Vancouver, Graduate and Professional Student Association, and WSU Administrative Professional Advisory Council.

The Regents are expected to take action on a number of recommendations including:

  • A recommendation to approve the WSU Spokane Master Campus Plan as updated to continue to build a world-class Health Sciences Education and Research campus, create an integrated campus community with a clear identity, prioritize campus open space, connect with the Spokane University District and create a meaningful connection with the Spokane River.
  • A recommendation to approve the schematic design for the WSU North Puget Sound Academic Center.
  • A recommendation to approve a parking lot addition project at WSU Vancouver and proceed with design and construction with a total budget not to exceed $2 million.
  • A recommendation to approve the design and construction of the Multicultural Center project at WSU Pullman with a total budget not to exceed $16 million.
  • A recommendation to approve a General Revenue Bond Resolution authorizing the issuance and sale of bonds or other obligations not to exceed $16 million, a maximum term of 25 years and a maximum interest cost of 5.5 percent to finance the WSU Pullman Multicultural Center.
