PORTLAND, Ore. – Winners of the third annual Washington Industrial Energy Leaders awards were announced this week at the 7th Annual Northwest Industrial Energy Efficiency Summit.
The Washington Industrial Energy Leaders program recognizes companies that are leaders in their field by making outstanding progress toward improved energy efficiency.
Award winners include:
- The Boeing Company for Leadership by Example – with Puget Sound Energy, Seattle City Light, and Snohomish PUD as the serving utilities.
- For Leadership in Energy Performance, Water/Wastewater, the City of Tacoma Central Wastewater Treatment Plant – with Tacoma Power as the serving utility – will receive an award.
- For Leadership in Energy Performance, an honorable mention will go to Lineage Logistics – with Puget Sound Energy as the serving utility.
- Quincy Foods, LLC will receive an award for Leadership in Energy Performance – with Grant County PUD and Cascade Natural Gas as the serving utilities.
- An honorable mention for Leadership in Innovation will go to Inland Empire Paper – an Avista Utilities customer. The company will also receive some additional recognition in this category.
- An award for Leadership in Innovation will go to Shields Bag & Printing Co. – with Pacific Power and Cascade Natural Gas as the serving utilities.
- King & Prince and UniSea – served by Puget Sound Energy – will be recognized with a joint award for Leadership in Innovation.
- North Pacific Paper Corporation – served by Cowlitz PUD – will be recognized for Leadership in Energy Performance.
“Industry leaders face increased pressure to reduce operating costs, and to do business in a more sustainable way,” said Christine Love, industrial services manager for the WSU Energy Program. “Enhanced energy efficiency can help accomplish both of these goals,”
Love said 18 applications were submitted in consideration for an award, and the selection committee members agreed that every application highlighted impressive accomplishments.
Several of the Washington Industrial Energy Leaders award recipients were recognized informally today during the Northwest Industrial Energy Efficiency Summit – alongside award recipients from the Idaho Awards for Excellence in Industrial Energy Efficiency. Many of their industrial peers, serving utilities, and representatives from energy efficiency organizations were on-hand to congratulate them.
The WSU Energy Program, Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, and the Washington State Department of Commerce sponsor the program. The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) is the founding sponsor.
Through BPA’s Energy Smart Industrial program, BPA and Northwest publicly-owned electric utilities offer industrial companies a suite of energy management options that can unlock energy and cost savings.
Since 2009, ESI has helped Northwest industries complete over 900 capital projects in a variety of market segments, including pulp and paper, wood products, food processing, high technology, water/wastewater, mining and others. And collectively, 111 publicly owned utilities in Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming, and have saved industrial companies more than 647 million kilowatt hours of electricity — enough energy to power nearly 60,000 homes for a year.
The Washington companies will receive their awards formally from Governor Jay Inslee at a special ceremony in the State Capitol later this winter.
