Oct. 25: Field tour showcases forests, harvesting, milling

forestVASHON, Wash. – Woodland owners, architects and builders will learn how local wood is harvested, milled and used in construction during the Vashon Field Tour 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Vashon Island High School, 20120 Vashon Hwy. SW, Vashon, Wash.

WSU Extension and King County will host the event, which will feature tours of Chautauqua and Island Center forests and of the new Vashon Island High School, built with local lumber. The event will conclude with a milling demonstration at the Joel Kuperberg Memorial Mill Yard.

Participants should dress for the weather, wear sturdy footwear, prepare to walk short distances in forested terrain and bring a picnic lunch. Parking, restrooms and water are available on site.
