PULLMAN, Wash. – Representatives will talk with students and others interested in health careers at the free, public Health Careers EXPO 4-6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, in the CUB junior ballroom at Washington State University. Refreshments will be available.
Alumnus and former WSU chemistry instructor Saul Valencia, a Tri-Cities family practice physician, will give the keynote speech.
“As a first-generation student and a Cougar alumnus, Dr. Valencia has a compelling story and a valuable message to share with students interested in pursuing health related careers,” said J. Manuel Acevedo, director of WSU’s Office of Multicultural Student Services and expo planning committee member.
Following the speech will be a panel discussion with health professionals, then breakout sessions.
Expo participants gain by receiving specific feedback and creating a network of individuals who can assist them as they pursue an education and career, Acevedo said.
Throughout the expo participants can visit with representatives from many health organizations including:
• Eastern Washington University physical therapy and occupational therapy
• University of Washington medical school admissions, health sciences, WWAMI, dentistry and physician assistant
• Heritage University MA in medical sciences, physician assistant and laboratory science
• Walla Walla Community College nursing in Clarkston, Wash.
• Life Chiropractic College West
• Pacific University audiology, dental hygiene, gerontology, healthcare administration, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy and physician assistant
• University of Montana Native American of Excellence program in pharmacy
• University of Western States chiropractic, nutrition, exercise science, massage therapy and diagnostic imaging
• WSU pharmacy, nursing, health sciences, nutrition and exercise physiology, dietetics, health policy and administration, Native American health sciences, veterinary medicine and speech and hearing sciences
