PULLMAN, Wash. – Award winning Portland, Ore., drummer and composer Christopher Whyte will perform a free, public guest recital at 4:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Kimbrough Hall at Washington State University.
Instructor of percussion and director of percussion studies at Western Oregon University, he recently earned his doctor of musical arts degree in percussion performance from Boston University, where he was a student of Boston Symphony principal timpanist Timothy Genis.
Whyte has works published through Tapspace, MSC, Matrix and Bachovich publishing companies and can be heard on forthcoming recordings from Pentatone Classics.
He is active as a percussion arranger for a number of high school bands.
He is cofounder of the Portland Percussion Group contemporary quartet and has performed with the Oregon Symphony, Atlantic Symphony, Boston Civic Symphony and others.
He won the 2006 University of Oregon Concerto Competition.
