Sept. 30: ‘Exhibitions’ in history and brass displayed in concert

fac-art-series-220PULLMAN, Wash. – Trumpet and organ music, with historical narrative, as well as selections by the WSU Brass Quintet will be featured in a Faculty Artist Series concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, in Bryan Hall at Washington State University.

Proceeds from the series benefit the WSU School of Music scholarship fund.

Tickets will be for sale in the lobby 30 minutes before the concert. They are free to WSU students with ID. The cost is $10 general admission and $5 for non-WSU students and those age 60+.

In the first half of the concert, the duo En Chamade will perform selections from Modeste Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.” The artists are Jill Schneider, organ, and David Turnbull, trumpet.

Keri McCarthy will present a historical narrative during the performance. All three performers are faculty members in the School of Music.

The second half will feature Chris Dickey (tuba), Denise Snider (trombone), Matthew Aubin (horn), Chris Wurst (trumpet) and Turnbull (trumpet) in a performance of Fisher Tull’s “Exhibition for Brass Quintet.” The inner movements of this six-movement piece feature particular instruments in the ensemble.

The concert will conclude with the brass quintet joined by students Blake Woolsey (trumpet), Kyndra Sisayaket (horn) and Calvin Gorman (trombone) on Giovanni Gabrieli’s “Canzon septimi toni No. 2.”
