Annual financial report earns highest award

GFOA-logoPULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University has earned the highest award – the “Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting” – for its fiscal year 2013 financial report from the Governmental Finance Officers Association (GFOA) comprised of 18,000 members.

“It is a rare occasion to receive this award on the first submission of a financial report,” said Barry Johnston, WSU associate vice president for finance. “A certificate is awarded only if there is consensus among reviewers that the report substantially complies with generally accepted accounting principles and program policy.”

This was the first time WSU submitted the Comprehensive Financial Audit Report for approval by the GFOA.

“Special thanks goes to Terry Ely, our executive director and controller, for her persistence in bringing this to fruition,” Johnston said.
