EVERETT, Wash. – Washington State University North Puget Sound at Everett officially kicked off the 2014 fall semester this week, welcoming approximately 55 new WSU students who will begin four-year degree programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Integrated Communication, or Hospitality Business Management.
“This is a new year with lots of new opportunities for residents of North Puget Sound,” said Paul Pitre, dean of WSU North Puget Sound at Everett. “The continued dream of a four-year degree is coming true for students in Snohomish, Skagit, and Island counties.”
Tafona Ervin, director of Student Services for WSU NPS at Everett, said “We had an excellent new student orientation late last week. Our students are ready to engage and begin the WSU school year in one of our four offered academic programs.”
WSU is also entering into the first year as the manager of Everett University Center. This past July, WSU assumed management of the consortium of baccalaureate institutions that offer a suite of academic programs for students on the Everett Community College campus. The state legislature has asked WSU to work collaboratively with the Everett University Center Coordinating & Planning Council to advance the approved plan for growth of third- and fourth-year instruction at the center, including WSU NPS at Everett.
Currently, 19 degree and certification programs are being offered at Everett University Center. Plans for a stand-alone building for the center to house students and create laboratories are also on track pending further review and approvals by the legislature. WSU’s four academic programs complement the other programs offered by the participating institutions and build synergy in adherence to the strategic plan of the center.
“We remain committed to working with our six university partners to focus on science, technology, engineering and math programs and delivering additional high-quality, high-demand degrees for those students who want or need to remain here in the area,” said Bob Drewel, interim chancellor of WSU NPS at Everett. “It is exciting not only to welcome our students to WSU North Puget Sound at Everett, but anticipate welcoming over 450 students to the center through the consortium institutions over the next several weeks.”
