Copies of common reading book available to faculty

Garbology-180PULLMAN, Wash. – Faculty who teach introductory courses in any subject might want to consider weaving in topics from this year’s common reading book, “Garbology,” by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edward Humes.

Desk copies are available from Washington State University common reading co-director Karen Weathermon. Contact her at kweathermon@wsu.edu.

The book explores trash and its impact on the environment and consumer society.

“The author provides specific accounts with direct application to topics germane to introductory courses in sociology, psychology, fine arts, economics, agriculture, environmental science, international business, engineering, political science and history,” said Dan Bernardo, WSU provost and executive vice president.

“I urge colleges and departments to think about activities, lectures, forums and opportunities to engage their freshman students with the common reading book,” he said.
