PULLMAN, Wash. – The Board of Regents of Washington State University will hold a regularly scheduled meeting May 8 and 9 on the Pullman campus to consider a variety of action items, including one which would keep tuition at current levels during the 2014-2015 academic year.
The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. May 8 in room 204 of the Compton Union Building with a Special Meeting of the Trustees/Shareholders of the Students Book Corporation, to be followed by consecutive meetings of the Finance and Audit Committee, Executive Committee, External Affairs Committee, and Academic and Student Affairs Committee.
The Regents will re-convene at the same location at 8 a.m. on Friday to hear reports from the WSU Faculty Senate and Regent’s committees.
Among the action items for the Regents will be a proposal to purchase a building and land owned by Synod of Alaska-Northwest Presbyterian Church located adjacent to the WSU Pullman campus for $1.2 million; the approval of phase one of a $1.25 million “Gateway Improvement Project” to enhance and address maintenance concerns at the Stadium Way and Main Street/Hwy 270 entrances to the Pullman campus; and the approval of a $3 million design and construction plan for construction for an 11,000-square-foot addition to the existing McCluskey Services Building.
The Regents will also vote on a proposal to create a College of Medical Sciences to bring the WWAMI medical education program and the department of Speech and Hearing Sciences (SHS) in Spokane together with a common mission of educating clinicians and clinician scientists. A proposal to extend the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Bachelor of Arts in Communication, and Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality Business Management programs to the University Center of North Puget Sound in Everett is also slated for a vote by the Regents.
