SEATTLE – The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for the Northwest has announced that a video project created by Washington State University Athletics for the Pac-12 Network has been nominated for an Emmy award.
Called WSU Baseball Bat Lab, the video project was produced as a joint venture between WSU’s Edward R. Murrow College of Communication and the WSU College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA).
“This is a great example of the partnerships formed between WSU Athletics, the various colleges on campus and the Pac-12 Networks,” said WSU Director of Athletics Bill Moos. “To be recognized for this great work is a tremendous honor and one the entire campus takes tremendous pride in.”
Emmy awards are traditionally given to television stations in the region. The WSU project, however, was nominated in the category of Information and Instructional,intended to recognize productions that demonstrate “excellence in a presentation of stories whose prime purpose is to be instructional.”
Since its inception, the Pac-12 Network has strived to include programming that features research and education by its member institutions. The WSU project qualified for nomination because of the unique nature of the Pac-12’s Washington Network, which provides programming to viewers within the state.
The video focuses attention on WSU’s CEA baseball bat lab. Founded by Lloyd Smith, a professor with the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, the WSU sports science laboratory is the exclusive testing facility for baseball bats with the NCAA. The video was one of several produced by WSU Athletics that can be seen airing on the Pac-12 Network.
The Northwest Emmy Awards recognize outstanding achievements in broadcasting by conferring annual awards of merit in the chapter’s designated award region. The region includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska.
Winners will be announced at the 51st Emmy Awards on Saturday, June 14, in Seattle.
