April 19: 5K run and kids dash at WSU Tri-Cities

ASWSUTC-5K-2013-80RICHLAND, Wash. – Textbooks don’t come cheap and the Associated Students of Washington State University Tri-Cities is doing something about it.

ASWSUTC is holding the fourth annual Fund the Future 5K Run at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 19, on the paved path along the Columbia River behind WSU Tri-Cities. Walkers are welcome. Proceeds go toward stipends to help students purchase textbooks.

Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. on the Columbia Center Rotary Stage, behind the East and West buildings at 2710 Crimson Way, Richland.

Preregister online through Wednesday night, then register in person Saturday morning at the race. Go to http://signmeup.com, click on “find event” and search for “Fund the Future.”

Registration fees are:

• General public: $17 in advance, $20 on Saturday.

• WSU Tri-Cities alumni: $15 in advance, $18 on Saturday.

• WSU Tri-Cities students and employees: $10

• Kids ages 6-12: $10

• Kids ages 5 and under: Free, and strollers are welcome. The 50-yard dash is immediately before the 9:30 a.m. race start, so arrive by 9 a.m. A bounce house will help keep kids entertained.

ASWSUTC-5K-2013-250For serious runners, timing chips are provided by Budu Racing. Country Gentleman Restaurant & Catering is sponsoring a post-race spaghetti feed at 11 a.m. for participants.

Radio station MIX 105.3 FM will broadcast live during the event. Prizes have been donated by the Tri-City Court Club, Greenies, the Dust Devils, Running Soul, REI and Yoke’s Fresh Market.

Directions to WSU Tri-Cities: From George Washington Way, pass Hanford High, turn right on Sprout Road, follow it to the end, then turn left into campus.
