Four elected to Faculty Status Committee

PULLMAN, Wash. – Four new members of the Faculty Status Committee have been elected by the faculty. They will begin their terms in August.

Brian French (educational psychology), Jolie Kaytes (landscape architecture) and Robby Rosenman (economics) will serve three-year terms. Laura Lavine (entomology) will complete the final two years of a term being vacated by Laura Hill, human development.

The committee is an independent investigative body that reports and makes recommendations to the WSU president. The committee handles appeals of tenure denial, deferral of promotion and nonreappointment.

Members can also be asked to investigate termination of a tenured faculty member’s employment due to discontinuation of a program or department or financial exigency. The committee also arranges for investigations and hearings prior to disciplinary action. And it can be asked to look into other decisions that an appellant believes are in violation of the Faculty Manual’s policies and procedures.

Retiring members of the committee are Kris Johnson, animal science; Bala Krishnamoorthy, mathematics; and Cheryl Gunselman, libraries. Returning members are Stergios Fotopoulos, finance and management science; Katrina Mealey, veterinary clinical sciences; Craig Parks, psychology; Rob Quinlan, anthropology; and Julie Wieck, music.
