Conference planner named president-elect of state group

Dana-Colwell-80PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University conference manager Dana Colwell has been named president-elect of the Washington state chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI).

MPI has 20,000 members from 86 countries. It promotes education, professional development and business growth opportunities. The state chapter has more than 300 members.

“I feel privileged to work with the top meeting and event planners and suppliers in Washington,” Colwell said.

A WSU graduate, she has worked in the conference business since 2003, coordinating complex events ranging from 10 to 6,000 attendees. In 2013, the state chapter named her planner of the year.

“MPI has given me the opportunity to bring back (to WSU) valuable education, networks and the latest and greatest tricks of the trade,” she said. “This directly complements the services we provide our clients and the events we plan on their behalf.”

WSU Conference Management organizes more than 50 educational conferences and events a year. It has a staff of 10 divided between Pullman and Puyallup, Wash.

“We have a powerhouse team of conference managers here at WSU,” said Kelly Newell, director of noncredit programs for the WSU Global Campus, which includes conference management and WSU’s online degree programs. “Dana personifies the knowledge, energy and experience that make our planners the best in the business.”
