National awards go to CUB marketing designs

PULLMAN, WASH. – The Compton Union Building, University Recreation and Biomedical Communication Unit at Washington State University recently won national awards from the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) for marketing design efforts.

stair-banner-200The ACUI’s annual Steal this Idea competition recognizes excellence in college union and student activities marketing. Entries are judged on design, concept, editorial content and effectiveness.

CUB student staff Adam Jackson and professional staff mentor Rheannon Hawkins won first place in the professional staff digital campaign category for their CUB entertainment Web page design.

UREC’s Courtney Abbott and Molly Schotzko and Rich Scott with the Biomedical Communication Unit in the College of Veterinary Medicine won first place in the professional staff signs and banners category for the “Take the First Step” banner displayed in the CUB stairwell.

CUB student staff Megan Freeman and professional staff mentor Sarah Patterson won third place in the student staff video and animation category for the “Be the Change” animated digital signage created for the Center of Civic Engagement.

CUB student staff David Heyduck won third place in the student staff signs and banners category for his “Cougs Across the World” wall-hanging design. Honorable mention in this category went to Heyduck, Kiran Kaur, Hilary Sandberg and professional staff mentor Kyle Cance for the “Anatomy of a Turkey Sandwich” wall-hanging for Reunion Coffeehouse in the CUB.
