PULLMAN, Wash. – Take a swinging gypsy wagon trip to the North Pole with the Hot Club of San Francisco’s “Cool Yule” performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in Daggy Hall’s Jones Theatre at Washington State University.

A festive social at 6:30 p.m. in the theater lobby will feature a visit from Santa Butch, complimentary light holiday fare provided by Banyans on the Ridge and a beer and wine cash bar.
Powered by the violin of two-time Grammy Award winner Evan Price, the velvet voice of Isabelle Fontaine and a swinging rhythm section, the ensemble celebrates the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli’s pioneering Quintette du Hot Club de France with style and panache. To hear the group live, or on any of its 13 albums, is to be carried back to the 1930s into the small, smoky jazz clubs of Paris and the refined lounges of the famous Hotel Ritz.
Often called gypsy jazz, the music of the Hot Club of San Francisco (http://www.hcsf.com) has entranced audiences around the globe for more than 20 years. The group borrows the instrumentation of violin, bass and guitars from the original Hot Club while breathing new life into the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions from superb lead guitarist Paul Mehling.
Acoustic Guitar magazine has hailed the group’s playing as “intricate, scorching and often brilliant,” while All About Jazz says, “There aren’t enough superlatives to describe their sound.” With frequent national and international tours, from Iceland to Lincoln Center and the Monterey Jazz Festival, the ensemble keeps this historic music fresh and alive.
Reserved seating costs $20 for adults, $16 for seniors (60+) and $10 for students and youth.
