RICHLAND, Wash. – Professor Akram Hossain has been appointed interim director of the engineering and computer sciences academic programs at Washington State University Tri-Cities.
“Dr. Hossain was nominated by his peers in the engineering faculty to this leadership role,” said Danny Talbot, chief of staff at WSU Tri-Cities. “This interim appointment also supports the further development of our engineering programs and facilitates our transition to a full-time director of engineering in 2014.”
Before joining WSU Tri-Cities in 1994, Hossain worked as a senior technical consultant with Rust Environment and Infrastructure in South Carolina. His research interests include reaction kinetics, modeling of flow and contaminant transport in the subsurface and modeling adsorption in a packed bed reactor.
He has coordinated the civil and environmental engineering undergraduate and graduate programs at WSU Tri-Cities since 2001 and was instrumental in establishing the bachelor of science degree in civil engineering on the Richland campus.
He received his Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering from WSU in 1989. He holds master’s degrees in environmental engineering from WSU and geotechnical engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.
