SPOKANE, Wash. – Free health screenings will be offered at a free community 2013 Health and Wellness Fair 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Phase 1 Building on the Washington State University Spokane Riverpoint Campus.

Designed to educate and involve the community in exploring different health and wellness choices, the fair is hosted by students from WSU’s Program in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology (NEP) and the Campus Wellness Collaborative. It will include partnering campus programs and local vendors who represent recreational activities, healthy living, nutrition, health care organizations, fitness and more.

Screenings will be administered based on sign-ups. They will provide cholesterol, blood glucose and exercise tests, including body mass index, waist circumference and both resting and exercising blood pressures. Free flu shots will be delivered first come, first served.

The health fair will take place in the Phase I Classroom Building at 668 N. Riverpoint Blvd. If you plan to use public transit, STA Routes 26, 28 and 29 serve the Riverpoint Campus. The Centennial Trail provides pedestrian/bike access and bike racks are located by every building. If you plan to drive, please use the Pay and Display kiosks located in Yellow lots on campus. About the Program in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology

The bachelor of science degree in nutrition and exercise physiology focuses on the effects of nutrition and exercise on human health. This unique curriculum integrates the areas of exercise physiology, human nutrition, biological sciences and social and psychological sciences. This program is the only bachelor’s degree in the U.S. to be both endorsed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
