PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment is reorganizing several key units to increase efficiency and internal collaboration to better serve students.
Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment John Fraire has been working with the units for several months getting ready for the transition and believes staff members will find the restructuring beneficial.
“These changes create a very solid organizational structure that aligns departments with similar focuses in a way that allows them to work more closely together,” he said.
As a result of reorganization:
* University Recreation (UREC) will move from under Fraire to Terry Boston, assistant vice president of Administrative Services and Auxiliary Services. As a self-sustaining unit, UREC will be grouped with other auxiliary units such as the Compton Union Building, Residence Life, Housing Services, Dining Services and the Children’s Center.
* The Wellbeing Program, formerly under UREC, will report to Bruce Wright, executive director of Health and Wellness Services. Wellbeing promotes healthy living and offers programs that educate the campus community about emotional, financial, intellectual and physical health.
* The Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, also formerly housed in UREC, will report to Melynda Huskey, WSU dean of students. Student Involvement links students to student organizations, leadership development, arts and entertainment and the Associated Students of Washington State University.
Adam Jussel, formerly with WSU’s Attorney General’s Office, has recently been named director of the Office of Student Standards and Accountability, which also reports to Huskey.
* A search is under way for an associate vice president for enrollment. This person will oversee the Admissions Office, Recruitment Office, Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and New Student Programs.
* The Office of Federal Programs and External Funding has changed its name to the Office of Access, Equity and Achievement. It oversees WSU’s federally funded programs such as Student Support Services, College Assistant Migrant Program and Upward Bound. It also houses the Office of Multicultural Student Services in which the new Start Smart program is located.
