PULLMAN, Wash. – Max Kirk has been named interim director of the School of Design and Construction at Washington State University. He has served as assistant director since 2005. He replaces Greg Kessler who is returning to his faculty position.
“Dr. Kirk has contributed his leadership and service to the SDC and the college for many years,’’ said Candis Claiborn, dean of the WSU College of Engineering and Architecture. “I greatly appreciate his willingness to step up during this time of transition, and I look forward to working with him in his new capacity.’’
Kirk will oversee the continuing programmatic transition in the school. In 2012, the School of Architecture and Construction Management expanded to include interior design and landscape architecture programs. Unique in the country, the school presents unprecedented opportunities for collaboration and integration among students in the design disciplines.
A WSU alumnus (’77, construction management), Kirk worked in the Pacific Northwest as a project manager and estimator and is a certified professional constructor. He taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Since returning to WSU in 2001, he has served as associate professor and as program coordinator for WSU’s construction management program.
In addition to his WSU degree, Kirk holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Washington University, a master’s degree in construction from Arizona State University and a Ph.D. in administration, curriculum and instruction from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
