Olympic Peninsula field day informs forest landowners

forest field dayFORKS, Wash. – Landowners on the Olympic Peninsula will learn how to better steward their forest resources at the Washington State University Extension forest owners field day on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Olympic Natural Resources Center in Forks, Wash.

“We want to engage anyone who owns land with trees,” said Andrew Perleberg, WSU forestry extension educator. “Whether that’s a home in the woods or many acres of forest, this field day has something to offer everyone to help them manage their forests.”

Private forest owners are encouraged to attend this comprehensive educational event filled with practical how-to information intended to help them make sound decisions and manage forest resources successfully.

Find registration information at http://bit.ly/15EFzHR and a detailed schedule of presentations at http://forestry.wsu.edu. A barbecue lunch will be available for purchase.

The field day is designed to prepare landowners to plan and carry out best practices, accomplish management objectives, reduce risks and protect their financial investments. With more than 20 sessions, topics will include controlling noxious weeds, cultivating mushrooms, Native American uses of the land, selling timber, wildfire protection and much more.

The day will include classes and activities led by experts in forest health, timber and non-timber products, fire protection and fish and wildlife habitat. Presenters will be available to answer specific questions. Activities for youth will be offered throughout the day.

The event in Forks is the latest in a series of forestry field days presented by WSU Extension this year in several locations throughout Washington.
