Federal regulations no longer allow the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) to accept 1040, 1040A, and 1040 EZ tax documents when students and/or parents are asked to provide 2012 taxes for the FAFSA verification or “file review” process. This year, students and/or parents will need to submit an IRS Tax Return Transcript when 2012 taxes are requested by the Financial Aid Office. The Tax Return Transcript is free and can be ordered online at http://IRS.gov, by calling 1-800-908-9946, or by mail. It takes about two weeks to receive. If a student or a parent did not file taxes but earned wages for 2012, then copies of W-2’s will be needed. For more information, please visit the OFAS website at WWW.FINAID.WSU.EDU.
