SEATTLE – Washington state’s Joint Center for Aerospace Technology Innovation (JCATI) will hold its first research symposium here June 24 on “The Future of Aerospace Innovation in Washington.’’ The all-day forum will be at the University of Washington’s Kane Hall. The event is $50 general admission and free for students.
JCATI was established by the Washington legislature and governor’s office in 2012 to address technological questions important to the state’s aerospace industry. The center works to support the industry by pursuing research that is relevant to aerospace companies and by providing industry-focused research opportunities for students.
Candis Claiborn, dean of Washington State University’s College of Engineering and Architecture, will be one of the featured speakers. She will be part of a university panel that will discuss “The Academy’s Role in Innovation.’’
The panel includes James Hermanson, chair, Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Washington; Michael Bragg, incoming dean for the UW College of Engineering; and Earll Murman, professor emeritus from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Additional speakers will include Ray Stephanson, mayor of Everett, and Bobak Ferdowsi, Mars Curiosity Rover mission engineer. An industry panel will focus on “Grand Challenges in Aerospace,’’ and David Daggett, advanced technology at Parker Aerospace, will discuss “Developments in Biofuels and Alternative Energies.’’
Earlier this year, seven WSU research groups received support from JCATI.
