Bill London

PULLMAN, Wash. – R. Bill London, retired from WSU’s University Relations, died May 24, 2013. He worked at WSU 1991-2008.

Bill worked as a public information officer for the College of Education and later as a writer for WSU Today newspaper.

London, 65, passed away peacefully at his home in Moscow. He always strove for Thoreau’s purposeful, simple life, and he rejoiced in the beauty of his world every day.

After meeting his life partner, Gina Gormley, in Santa Barbara, Calif., in 1971, the two moved to Benewah County, Idaho, where they built a home. In 1978, their daughter, Willow, was born, and in 1984 the family moved to Moscow.

Bill was a loving and dedicated husband and father. He developed his career as a journalist and author, and later his public relations position at Washington State University, to coincide with his being a stay-at-home dad for his daughter. His loving care and support also extended to his many friends.

Bill was active in the civic life of Moscow and the Inland Empire, and he worked hard to build a healthy, just and nurturing community by creating and supporting many local organizations. He stood up for what he believed in and was not shy to share his opinions.

For 26 years he also contributed his time, skills and support as editor of the Moscow Food Co-op newsletter, and was elected to its board of directors in early 2012. A tribute to Bill can be found at http://moscowfood.coop/farewell/

Bill is survived by his wife, Gina; daughter, Willow (and her husband, Patrick); grandchildren, Leyna, Lukas and Lauren; mother, Pearl; sister, Cindy (and her husband, Geno); brother, Louis (and his wife, Donna); nephew, Joel; and niece, Rose.

A memorial celebration was held June 9, 2013, at the 1912 Center in Moscow. Memorial donations may be made to the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute or any local charity.
