March 26 – Cheatham Lecture: Former Astronaut Discusses 100 Year Starship Project

Dr. Mae Jemison, the first African American woman in space, will lecture on the 100 Year Starship Program as part of the College of Engineering and Architecture’s Cheatham Lecture on Tuesday, March 26 at 2 p.m.

The lecture will be held in the CUB Junior Ballroom (CUB 210) on the Pullman campus and is free and open to the public.

Jemison is the principal for the 100 Year Starship Project, which envisions human travel beyond our solar system to another star within the next 100 years. Her leadership and vision provide guidance and direction for the project.

Jemison served six years as a NASA astronaut. She flew aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour STS-47 Spacelab Japan mission in September 1992.

She is founder of the Jemison Group Inc., a technology consulting firm that integrates the critical impact of sociocultural issues when designing andimplementing technologies.

The Robert A. Cheatham Engineering Management Lecture Series was established to honor the late Robert A. Cheatham, a devoted WSU alumnus and a key player in the establishment of the WSU Foundation.
