Award celebrates Tarnai’s achievement posthumously

PULLMAN, Wash. – John Tarnai, former director of the Washington State University Social and Economic Sciences Research Center who passed away in May, posthumously received the John Kennedy Achievement Award from the national Association of Academic Survey Research Organization (AASRO).

In addition, the John Tarnai Scholarship has been established, and the first award was given earlier this year. The scholarship has received 501C(3) status, making donations to it tax deductible.

This scholarship fund was established to recognize Tarnai’s commitment to the development and training of young professionals in the areas of sample surveys and survey methodology. AASRO administers the award; the scholarship fosters the training and education mission of the organization.

This competitive application scholarship assists and supports conference registration for early career professionals to gain training by attending professional meetings in survey methodology and training. Most of AASRO’s members are self-sustaining research centers and the scholarship is an important aid for building staff skills.

If you feel there are others that I should notify about this award and the scholarship fund please let me know. Please also let me know if I can provide any other information. Jolene Smith at University of Nebraska Lincoln is also available to provide information about the award and the scholarship.
