Trumpet professor solos with award-winning brass band

PULLMAN, Wash. – David Turnbull, a trumpet professor at Washington State University, was featured as a cornet soloist with the Fountain City Brass Band, one of the finest brass ensembles in the world.

The group recently won the U.S. Open Brass Band Championships held in St. Charles, Ill. The championships bring American and visiting bands together for the “gold standard” of brass band playing.

“We are enormously proud of Dave and this fantastic achievement,” said Greg Yasinitsky, director of the WSU School of Music. “This impressive accomplishment adds to the recognition of our excellent faculty in the School of Music at Washington State University.”
The Fountain City Brass Band, founded in 2002, is based in the greater Kansas City, Mo., area. They have won five U.S. open championships and four North American Brass Band Association championships since 2004. In 2004, they became the first American band – and first non-United Kingdom band in more than 50 years – to win a major competition in the U.K. at the Scottish Open Brass Band Championships.
