PULLMAN, Wash. – A varied program – from modern to romantic and including some vocal pieces – will be performed by Washington State University’s Palouse Trio at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, in Bryan Theatre as part of the WSU Faculty Artist Series.
Proceeds benefit the School of Music scholarship fund. Tickets are available in the lobby one hour before concert time. They cost $10 general admission, $5 age 60 and older, $5 non-WSU students and free for WSU students with ID.
The Palouse Trio consists of WSU School of Music faculty members Meredith Arksey, violin, Ruth Boden-Luethi, cello, and Jeffrey Savage, piano. WSU’s newest voice faculty member, Brian Carter, will join them on four of Beethoven’s Scottish and Irish songs.
The trio will provide a sneak preview of WSU’s February Festival of Contemporary Art Music by performing “Elegy for Violin, Cello and Piano” by Alex Shapiro (featured composer at the festival). The elegy is a heartfelt work in honor of the composer’s father.
The trio will perform two favorites, “Oblivion” and “Otoño Porteño” by Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla, and – joined by WSU’s Richard Kriehn on viola – will conclude with the powerful “Quartet No. 1 in C Minor” by Gabriel Fauré, a masterpiece of the late French Romantic Period.
