Assistance with Health Insurance Costs Available

Employees may qualify for assistance with health insurance premiums, particularly large families at the lower end of the pay spectrum, in one of the following ways:

If the family income is under or close to 300% of the Federal Poverty Level ($54,930/family of three) and your children do not have health insurance coverage, the children may qualify for enrollment in the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), available under Title XXI of the Social Security Act.

Premium-payment assistance may be available to families where one or more are enrolled in Medicaid. The cost of Medicaid will be compared with the cost to the state to cover the employer plan. When the cost is less for the state to pay the employer premium cost, the cost is reimbursed to the family.

If you think you may qualify for CHIP, contact your Community Services Office. Whitman County Community Svcs: 418 S Main St., Ste. 1, Colfax, WA 99111—800-654-8130, or apply online at http://hrsa.dshs.wa.gov/applehealth/apply_now.shtml.
