PULLMAN, Wash. – V-Day WSU, part of the global movement to end gender violence, will host public auditions for the 2013 benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues” 7-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Nov. 1 and 2, in Todd 302 at Washington State University. Performance dates will be Feb. 21-23, 2013. No previous acting experience is necessary.

“‛The Vagina Monologues’ provides a great opportunity for women to stand up against gender violence and make an unabashed declaration about female sexuality,” said Randi Beardslee, a WSU sophomore anthropology major and director of the production.

The award-winning play is based on interviews with more than 200 diverse women about their experiences with sexuality, violence and life in general. The end result has been described as hilarious, heartbreaking, empowering and outrageous.

V-Day WSU, a registered student organization affiliated with Health and Wellness Services (HWS), strives to educate the Pullman community and raise awareness regarding violence against women and girls. Production of “The Vagina Monologues” is imperative to the group’s funding; it contributes to the $7,000-$9,000 V-Day WSU raises each year.

“The majority of the proceeds are donated to Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse, and the rest goes to the national V-Day spotlight campaign for the year,” said Beardslee. “This year, our spotlight campaign is One Billion Rising, which is a movement on Feb. 14 to stand up and dance to fight gender violence.”

V-Day WSU meetings are held at 4:30 p.m. every Thursday in the Washington Building, room G40 (HWS location). Students are welcome to join at any time.
