Values, language, tone improve wellbeing

PULLMAN, Wash. – Community wellbeing got a boost this week at Washington State University as a leadership conference, election debate, communication workshop and more helped students, faculty and staff determine and share what is important to them.

“Use Your Voice” aimed to bring awareness to how values, language and tone can improve the wellbeing of individuals and communities. That was the theme of the annual “Set the Trend Campaign” sponsored by the Associated Students of WSU and WSU Wellbeing.

Previous themes have included “Be Crimson. Go Green,” “Building a Healthy Pop Culture” and others. University Recreation, the Center for Civic Engagement, and Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Assessment and Prevention Services partnered in “Use Your Voice.”

“Using your voice is vital for every student at WSU,” said Kyle Erdman, president of ASWSU in Pullman. “Your passion and your values need to be shared with your community in order to make your surroundings a better place.”

The week’s events focused on how one voice can educate, empower and inspire change within a population. It provided information about finding a cause to believe in, effective ways to “Stand Up,” how to “Walk the Talk” by turning thoughts and words into action, and how to “Amplify” one voice to inspire others.
