WENATCHEE, Wash. – The Washington State University Center for Precision and Automated Agricultural Systems (CPAAS) will present a free, public Technology Expo starting at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the WSU Sunrise Orchard near Wenatchee. A free lunch will be provided by Wilson Irrigation, Orchard and Vineyard Supply.
Tree fruit growers are especially encouraged to attend, as the expo is designed specifically to demonstrate new and in-process solutions for orchardists.
A wide range of demonstrations is planned for the afternoon, including:
mechanical-assist technologies for apple and pear harvest;
hand-held shake and catch system for cherry harvest;
mechanical thinning systems;
harvest labor management technology;
data visualization, analysis, and decision-support software for precision farming;
autonomous platform technology;
site-specific wireless irrigation control;
machine-vision systems for pruning and crop load estimation;
robotic hop-twining machine;
mapping orchard light interception;
solid set canopy delivery system;
bin dog.

There also will be a talk on the role of genomics, genetics and breeding in developing efficient mechanized solutions for modern, high-tech orchards.
